"Kinda Pregnant," the 2025 Netflix comedy starring Amy Schumer, has garnered praise for its blend of outrageous humor and heartfelt moments, making it a standout in the streaming platform’s lineup. Directed by Tyler Spindel and co-written by Schumer and Julie Paiva, the film follows Lainy (Schumer), a woman so envious of her pregnant best friend Kate (Jillian Bell) that she dons a fake baby bump, leading to a series of absurd yet oddly relatable misadventures. Critics and fans alike have lauded its throwback high-concept comedy vibe, reminiscent of classics like "40-Year-Old Virgin," while offering a fresh take on the pregnancy trope. What works best is Schumer’s fearless performance, channeling her signature mix of self-deprecation and biting wit. Her chemistry with Will Forte, who plays the charmingly quirky Josh, adds a layer of rom-com sweetness that balances the film’s wilder moments—like Lainy stuffing a roast turkey up her dress to maintain her ruse.
Reviewers have highlighted these scenes as both laugh-out-loud funny and
surprisingly perceptive, satirizing societal obsessions with motherhood while
exploring Lainy’s genuine longing for family. The supporting cast, including
Brianne Howey’s authentic turn as a real expectant mother and Urzila Carlson’s
scene-stealing antics, further elevates the film. While not groundbreaking,
"Kinda Pregnant" succeeds as a lighthearted diversion with emotional
depth. Its ability to weave pratfalls with poignant reflections on jealousy and
belonging has earned it positive nods, with many calling it Schumer’s strongest
comedic outing since "Trainwreck." For those seeking a feel-good romp
with a touch of heart, this film delivers, proving that even a fake pregnancy
can birth real laughs and insights. It’s a testament to Schumer’s enduring
appeal and a win for Netflix’s comedy catalog.

The Amy haters and very forced hate are rlly coming out for some reason but they can't even pretend to write a legit reason as for why you shouldn't watch this movie. 😂 Well I'll tell you why you should, 1st of all I like Amy she's had GREAT movies like "I feel pretty" and "Snatched" but I thought the movie wasn't gonna be for me due to the whole pregnancy obsession, however I gave in and can say this is a movie for everyone. That's because if not for the friendship or pregnancy or romance you can watch for the comedy which this movie managed to nail even with the more modern humor and social aspects. I love that you can actually lol plenty of times which many "comedies" fail to make me do so. Great female cast as well, idk if anyone improvised but it sometimes felt like it.
One more thing I RLLY appreciate is that it's a successfully made modern setting movie, finally not a period drama or alternative universe or set in the past movie, it's way more relatable when a story takes place during an era we can relate to. As for my complaints, I wish Lainy the mc was not more concerned with the pregnancy aspect but more with the fact that she could potentially lose her best friend, i wish they focused on the female friendship aspect and not the old narrative of "I want to be what everyone tells me and expects me to be" i mean even as an explanation it did not make sense. If Lainy had said that she faked it due to her feeling like she was losing a friend bcs of her new interests, activities and priorities and that she wanted to simply gain a new friend (Megan) and she felt like that was the only way they were able to connect, that would make more sense and be more relatable.
A lot of us have
prob worried abt the possibility of losing our friend bcs they suddenly become
a new person but the movie didn't focus that well on that aspect. The mc could
have been a lil less cringey and crazy, they don't need to be extra all the
time. Overall pretty satisfied with the cast's acting and the dialog, some
great one liners, main couple was cute and matched each other's energy nothing
crazy but good enough chemistry for a rom com. Glad to see that Amy is still
acting despite her illness. ❤
